"Clay Wars"

What do you do with 20-minute classes? Well, "Clay Wars," of course!

Students in grades K-5 participated in a game entitled "Clay Wars." After dividing the classes into four groups, each group was given the same amount of modeling clay.  The instructions--create a structure using the coiling method.  The group with the highest structure wins! However, if your structure falls over, you are disqualified. Each group came up with a plan/strategy and all members participated.  The results varied.  Some groups elected to build solid structures, with large bases and thick coils. Other groups created slender structures, with thin coils. By the end of each class, students were reminded of some of the concepts we've been discussing in earlier classes (texture, form, balance, etc.) while having fun collaborating with fellow classmates.
